Tabby, short for Tabitha Lee Timmons, has a dream plan for everything. Love, marriage, kids and a picture perfect family life after that. So when Chris proposes to her, she thinks she is finally going to live her dream. After all, Chris was everything a girl could dream of: handsome, dignified and rich. Except that Chris is much more than this and he comes with an instruction manual that Tabby has to follow when she visits his family. And that’s where the trouble begins because the family lives in India.
Chris’s family in India is the quintessential joint family with lots of uncles, aunts and cousins. Tabby finds herself in a whirlwind as soon as she steps in their house. However, that is the least of her problems right now. The real challenge for Tabby is convincing Chris’s grandfather that she is good enough to marry his grandson. And while she is busy convincing him (and herself) and she and Chris are made of each other; Dev, Chris’s cousin, comes into picture and Tabby finds herself having thoughts she is not supposed to have. Amidst the preparations for a typical big fat Indian wedding, Tabby, Chris, Dev and Maya have issues and emotions of their own to deal with.
Love Muffin and Chai Latte` is funny and interesting and everything else you would want in a cute little love story. Though highly predictable, it makes a good read over a relaxed weekend. The writing style is easy yet crisp. For me, it was like reading a Bollywood movie script and I could actually see characters performing their acts in my mind. There is nothing to not like about the movie…sorry, the book. Tabby’s innocence, Chris’s desperation, Maya’s rebellion and Dev’s charm- all of these keep you hooked to the book till the end. Towards the end it became slightly repetitive but by then you are so engrossed in the tale that you want to read it till the end (even when you know what that will be) and that is why this deserves a 3.5 stars.
